Who we are

The Bauxite Research Innovations and Enterprise Center (BREC) is envisioned as a pioneering independent, non-profit think tank and innovation hub committed to transforming the bauxite sector through research excellence, enterprise development, knowledge sharing, and youth empowerment. Situated at the intersection of science, policy, and entrepreneurship, BREC aims to catalyze sustainable, inclusive, and innovation-driven growth across the entire bauxite value chain, from mining and processing to value addition, environmental stewardship, and community development.
As global demand for aluminum and other bauxite-derived products surges, driven by the energy transition, urbanization, and technological advancements, there is an urgent need to rethink how bauxite is extracted, processed, and utilized to maximize socio-economic benefits while minimizing environmental and social harms. Despite the abundance of bauxite resources in many regions, the sector often suffers from limited research and development (R&D), weak value addition, lack of local capacity, environmental degradation, and insufficient participation of youth and communities.
In response to these pressing challenges, BREC seeks to position itself as a leading center of thought leadership, practical innovation, and enterprise development. Through targeted research programs, policy dialogues, skills development initiatives, and start-up support, BREC will bridge the critical gaps between raw resource extraction and the creation of diversified, knowledge-based, and sustainable economies. BREC’s vision is rooted in the belief that through innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive development strategies, the bauxite sector can become a powerful engine for national transformation, regional integration, and global sustainability.
